
Artessia K. House leads Tess House Law, PLLC, a family law practice in San Antonio, Texas. The firm handles significant cases involving substantial assets such as multimillion-dollar properties, established businesses, and complex high-asset divorces. Artessia began her professional journey as a certified teacher for the San Antonio Independent School District, teaching students for six years. This foundational experience in education paved the way for her transition to a career in law, bringing a unique perspective that enriches her legal practice.
After earning a B.A. in Political Science and a Juris Doctor from St. Mary’s University, Artessia engaged in civil rights advocacy, taking on notable cases that garnered attention on platforms such as CNN, Yahoo News, and HuffPost. Her legal challenges against institutions like the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services (CPS) further underscore her commitment to justice.
Artessia is a barrister in the William S. Sessions American Inn of Court. She has served as the Chair of the African American Lawyers Section of the State Bar of Texas, advocating for the interests and representation of African American lawyers throughout the state.
Her accolades include being named a Top Family Lawyer by Scene in SA Magazine, receiving the 2024 Outstanding Women in Law award, and earning the San Antonio Business Journal’s 40 Under 40 award. She is also recognized as a Texas Super Lawyers Rising Star, featured on the Lawyers of Color’s Annual Hot List, and selected for The National Black Lawyers Top 40 Under 40. The St. Mary’s University Alice Franzke Feminist Award has also been bestowed upon her for her commitment to feminist principles and gender equality.
Outside of her courtroom duties, Artessia co-founded “Broke Lawyer,” a series aimed at guiding law firm owners to greater success. Her initiatives have been highlighted in Fortune, Forbes, and Entrepreneur magazines. She mentors young lawyers on business strategies while engaging in travel and real estate investment. Artessia K.
